What is the Badger Regional High Performance Program?

This is our own region's program dedicated to giving our states top athletes an opportunity to train together under some of our regions top coaches.  Badger Region will host a regional summer camp for High Performance Level and Youth National Level athletes. 24 female athletes and 12 male athletes at each level will be selected to participate through a regional tryout, scheduled for Saturday, March 12 at PCC Center Court in Waukesha and at PJ Jacobs Jr High School in Stevens Point.   Another tryout will be held on Saturday, April 30 at KEVA Sports Center in Madison.   Check in at all sites will begin at 5pm.  Athletic testing will take place from 5pm - 5:45pm.  On court evaluations will take place from 6 - 8:30pm.  Check back soon for more information.  For site directions click here.

The top female and male athlete in the High Performance level will receive an invitation to attend the national A1 camp (see USAV website for information). A team from the Girls and Boys Youth National Level will be selected to participate to in the National High Performance/Youth National Team tournament to be held July 19-23 in Austin, TX.

I am a coach and I want to be involved, how do I get involved?
We will need a lot of coaches to help out at tryouts. If you can help us out with tryouts, call Jenny in the region office or send an email. Tryout coaches will also be invited to attend our annual HP clinic (site and time TBA) for a 50% discount. Interested coaches should complete the High Performance Coach’s Application form and send it in to the region office.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where and when is this year’s Camp?
We have had to make some changes from the past due to the lateness of the completion of the boy’s JOVC Tournament and the earlier start of the Girls Youth National Tournament. Below are the tentative plans for each group:

Girls High Performance/Youth National Team
The Camp for all 48 selected athletes is tentatively (pending final contracts) scheduled for July 11th -13th. The team that is selected to compete in the post-camp tournament will stay and train through July 14th. The camp will be held at the KEVA Sports Center in Madison. Lodging and meals at an area hotel are being arranged for commuters. The cost of the 3 day camp will be $125*. Lodging and meals will be determined once contracts are signed and catering has been secured. Transportation to and from the camp site will be provided.

Boys High Performance/Youth National Team
The camp for all 24 selected athletes is tentatively (pending site location) scheduled for May 13th – 15th. We are looking for a location in SE WI. Camp will begin at 5:00 p.m. on May 13th with a Friday night training session and continue through Sunday evening. Since the boys don’t return from their JOVC tournament until as late as July 14th, it was felt that this year we would try an in-season camp during a fairly dead time for boy’s club programs in WI. The cost of the camp will be $100*. Lodging and meals will be available for commuters and cost will be determined once contracts are signed.

Where and when is the Girls’ Post Camp Competition?
This year there are two events offered for Regional HP/YNT Programs. The HP leadership is assessing the options based on quality of competition, venue, travel costs and scheduling. The first event is scheduled for Austin, July 19th-23rd. The second event we are considering is scheduled for July 25th-28th in Salt Lake City. Also under consideration, due to the higher turnout of High Performance age athletes, we may elect to send an HP Team to the post camp competition rather than the YNT Age Group if it appears that the HP Team would be more competitive. The final decision on this will be made after the April tryout in Madison.

Can I attend more than one tryout?
Yes, however, you must pay an additional tryout fee.

How can you choose athletes from 3 different tryouts without having the athletes on the same court?
We will have some of the same staff at each tryout. We are also video taping the tryouts.

*The actual cost of the camps is much higher than this. Badger Region subsidizes the cost so all eligible athletes can participate.
